Robert Mueller is working at an extremely fast pace in the Trump/Russia probe. He already has two guilty pleas for lying to the FBI, plus two indictments. According to FiveThirtyEight, this is an incredibly fast investigation, possibly because of the incompetence and arrogance of Trump’s circle.
I’ve personally predicted that Paul Manafort and Michael Flynn would be indicted early on, based on my experience in asset protection and taking down fraud rings. They were low-hanging fruit, and easy targets for the investigation to use against other members of Trump’s administration. Mueller is using the time-tested law enforcement technique of giving some individuals lesser charges, in exchange for their testimony against people further up the food chain.
The chips are starting fall hard and fast, and it is very likely that Jared Kushner will be the next person charged in the Russia investigation, thanks to Michael Flynn.
Paul Manafort was a campaign manager, and Michael Flynn was a national security advisor. Both of them violated the Logan Act which prohibits private citizens from negotiating with foreign governments.
For months, there were rumors about a possible indictment against Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser and key campaign aide. He had been under investigation by special prosecutor Robert Mueller since soon after the probe into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia began in May. On Friday morning — more than six months after Mueller’s inquiry started and more than a month after the first charges were leveled in the investigation — Flynn pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI. That may seem like a long time for an investigation to begin yielding criminal charges, but based on the timing of the first indictments and guilty pleas, Mueller is moving fast. (538)
What the Trump lackeys have done is far worse than what happened in Watergate. As crooked as Richard Nixon was, he didn’t collude with a foreign government to throw an election in his favor, despite losing the popular vote.
Whatever comes of this investigation, barring a miracle in which Trump, Pence, Paul Ryan and every Republican in the presidential line of succession are all indicted, we will likely end up with GOP control of the White House, Senate, and the House of Representatives.
However, every seat in the House is up for reelection in 2018, along with many seats in the Senate. If the House and Senate both flip to Democratic control, impeachment becomes a lot more plausible, as well as replacing Trump with a Democrat in 2020.
Ignore the Russian trolls posting fake news on social media. The time has come for the Resistance to organize and vote. That’s the only way we can win.
