There is no question in my mind that Jill Stein was used by Moscow and Vladimir Putin to swing the 2016 presidential election in favor of Donald Trump. Even before the election, Jill Stein was parroting anti-science rhetoric on biotechnology and medicine that was undermining American interests, which is part of the long strategy by Russia to undermine the United States across the world.
Jill Stein is a perennial Green Party candidate in every recent presidential election. Despite never holding a political office of any importance, she continues to campaign every four years as the alternative to the Democratic candidate.
In the Obama landslides of 2008 and 2012, her presence was of no consequence. In 2016, it was a factor in swinging the election in Russia’s and Trump’s favor.
This time around, the votes that went for her in some swing states were more than the thin margin of victory for Trump. Stein targeted her usual base, along with Bernie Sanders supporters who were convinced there was a great conspiracy by the DNC to disenfranchise them in favor of Hillary Clinton.
Stein’s name was included in a Senate Judiciary Committee letter requesting all communication between President Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. and a number of others, including Russian officials and other members of Trump’s presidential campaign.
Stein ran for president as the Green Party candidate in 2016. A Green Party spokesman called the inclusion of her name “vengeance against Dr. Stein for running as a third-party candidate for the White House.”
The Senate panel wants documents relating to a recently revealed meeting between Trump Jr. and a Russian attorney, among others. Former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and Trump’s son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner were also at the meeting.
But investigators seem to be casting a wider net by asking Trump Jr. for “all communication to, from or copied to you relating to” a long list of individuals that include Stein. (The Hill)
The accusation of “vengeance” is laughable. Stein made it a point to actively campaign against Clinton while implying that Trump would be better for the country than her. She courted Sanders supporters and made it a point to show up at the DAPL protest where she spray-painted a piece of construction equipment to endear herself to environmentalists. Stein ran as a protest candidate and had a running mate with some pretty insane ideas.
If you ran two previously unsuccessful campaigns for president, why would you do it again in 2016, especially with a maniac like Trump on the ballot?
Stein is no stranger to saying things that would put a smile on Vladimir Putin’s face. In December 2015, Stein went to Moscow, had dinner with Vladimir Putin, then publicly criticized US human rights policy, while not saying a word about Russia’s horrific abuses. That earned Stein a stern rebuke from the Russian Green Party. (AmericaBlog)
Whether Jill Stein knowingly colluded with Russia and the Trump campaign to erode support for Hillary Clinton, or if she was manipulated into it by Putin remains to be seen. Either way, there are a lot of unanswered questions that Robert Mueller will be getting answers for, and hopefully a few indictments.
