I have received a ton of hate mail over the last couple of years, from Bernie Sanders supporters, and Hillary Clinton fans, both of which are convinced that I am part of the myriad of conspiracies that led to the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.
For those of you who don’t already know, I voted for Bernie Sanders in the Louisiana primaries, and Hillary Clinton in the general election, despite the fact that I was fully aware that both would lose in those contests.
Bernie Sanders is the only candidate I have ever donated money to, and I’d do it again in a heartbeat if it meant making the DNC pay more attention to working class voters in red states. I’ve traveled hours to see him speak twice, which I can’t say for Hillary Clinton or any other politician in my adult life. With all of that being said, I don’t want him to run for president again in 2020.
Despite what people say, Democrats have a huge slate of very qualified candidates to pick from in 2020. The old guard of the DNC should step aside, quit the bickering, and get down to business.
Kamala Harris, Corey Booker, Kristen Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, John Bel Edwards, Joe Kennedy, Tammy Duckworth are all just a few very qualified candidates that we should be looking at for our future – instead of dwelling on the old battles of the past.
I want Bernie Sanders to tour the country and raise funds for the 2020 nominee, and other candidates down the ballot. I expect the same from Hillary Clinton, as well as any other Democrat who can make Donald Trump a one-term mistake. The DNC should return to Howard Dean’s 50 state strategy with a focus on taking back state legislatures from Republican control.
Bernie, I love you, but the time has come to pass the torch to my generation. We’re more than capable of picking up where you left off.
