Dear Progressives: The Time For Civility Is Over

For decades, liberals and progressives have tried civility. We’ve peacefully marched, signed petitions, called our representatives, and have turned the other cheek as the far-right have called us every nasty name known to humanity.

For peacefully protesting and trying civility, I’ve been doxxed, received threats online, had my vehicle vandalized, false reports filed to my employer, and have had my kids called “ghetto trash.”

It’s time to put civility aside, ya’ll. I’m tired of remaining polite while being called a “communist” or a “cuck” – or just about anything else. I’m not playing nice with people who refuse to debate ideas, and attack me instead.

I’m not sure how we can still keep talking about polite politics when there are Neo-Nazis ramming vehicles into crowds the way ISIS sympathizers do. We can’t make a prayer circle and sing “Give Peace A Chance” when armed idiots are targeting peaceful protests.

We can maintain civility and decorum with moderate Republicans who we disagree with on interpretations of laws, taxes, etc. However, the far-right and their calls for mass murder that resemble Nazi Germany aren’t worth trying to reason with.

They’re a festering boil, the result of decades of right-wing media misinformation and inherited racism. I am not going to attempt civility with them, and I will have no issue putting a size 10 steel-toed boot in their asses – if need be.

The time for being nice and civil ended years ago. It officially died when Trump ran for president. It’s time to resist, and reserve civility for those who actually deserve it. Drag the Twitter and Facebook trolls out into the daylight. Make them squirm.

For those who give no quarter, none will be given in return.
